The SOYO Radeon RX 580 8GB is a proven AMD Polaris GPU built around the Polaris 20 die with 2304 stream processors, paired with 8GB of GDDR5 memory across a 256-bit bus. Released as a refresh of the original Polaris architecture in 2017, the RX 580 became the most widely deployed mining GPU in history during the Ethereum era and remains a workhorse card for altcoin GPU mining today. SOYO is a Chinese aftermarket board partner that produces RX 580 variants using bin-sorted Polaris dies, twin-fan axial coolers, and an 8-pin PCIe power input.
For GPU mining, the RX 580 8GB is best deployed on memory-intensive algorithms where the 256-bit bus and 8GB VRAM both matter. Approximate hashrates with tuned core/memory clocks and undervolt: Etchash (Ethereum Classic) ~25 MH/s at ~75 W, Autolykos2 (Ergo) ~55–60 MH/s at ~95 W, KawPow (Ravencoin) ~12–14 MH/s at ~110 W, and Octopus (Conflux) ~25–28 MH/s at ~110 W. The 8GB frame buffer comfortably fits the current Etchash DAG, with headroom for several more epochs of growth.
Beyond mining, the RX 580 remains a capable 1080p gaming card — useful for hybrid mine-and-play setups, secondary workstation builds, or pulling the card out of a rig and putting it back in a desktop. Display output coverage is broad: HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort 1.4, and dual-link DVI-D, covering everything from modern high-refresh monitors to legacy office displays. The card runs the standard AMD Adrenalin driver stack on Windows and the open-source amdgpu driver on Linux.
For Australian home miners, the RX 580 draws approximately 185 W TDP from a single 8-pin PCIe connector, which any reputable 500 W+ ATX PSU will handle for a single-card build. For multi-card rigs on a standard 240 V / 10 A general purpose outlet (2400 W theoretical, derated to ~2200 W continuous), you can run roughly 8–10 cards on one circuit before approaching limits. As with any high-load mining build, a licensed electrician should be consulted for dedicated circuits and the installation must comply with AS/NZS 3000:2018.
